Travel Nails: Gel Glitter Dots

Ah. That is the sound of me relaxing. Or – of me being relaxed. I am relaxed! I just returned from vacation, you see! I was visiting friends and family for a week or so, and then I went to Maine for my family’s annual trip. I look forward to this trip all year; I’ve been going since I was 10 or 11! We go with a group of friends to the same house – even though I’m 30, I still sleep on the floor with the “kids!” We kayak, swim in the freezing ocean, pick sea glass, and cook delicious meals. I love it there, and I love my Maine friends. They are like a second family to me.

Gel Glitter Dots | The Dalai Lama's NailsWhen I go on a trip like this, I try to bring minimal nail supplies. I certainly want my nails to look good, so I bring a few things, like cuticle oil! But generally, I try not to bring too much. I always do gel nails before a travel, in order to maximize wear time. I tried out a glitter placement manicure in clear gel for this trip – and I LOVED the result. Gel glitter dots for the win! I think I should have used more gel to seal it in, which I will do next time. Gel Glitter Dots | The Dalai Lama's Nails

I started with a base of Gelish Foundation, and cured it for 30 seconds. Then, one nail at a time, I applied a second coat of Foundation. While it was still wet, I placed my glitter (which I bought from Presto – love the round matte glitter!). Then I cured it, and followed with a coat of Top It Off.

Although I used gel, you absolutely could use regular base and top coat for nail art like this. You would just need to place the glitter in wet base coat! Easy peasy.Gel Glitter Dots | The Dalai Lama's Nails

This is SOOO pretty!! I love that you used a clear base instead of hiding your nail – the colors are so soft and nice! And Maine is great – that was the first place I ever saw the ocean (at York Beach) when I was in my early 30s. Glad you had s nice vacation. I am leaving tomorrow for the Florida Keys and have been trying to figure out my holiday mani and what to bring! Cuticle oil was the only item I thought worthy! 😊 Thanks for this post!!

  • This is so darn cool! I thought it was a dotticure but I like it even more now that I know it’s glitters. I wish my nails were able to be shown naked like yours (trust me, no one wants to see these things!)

  • These nails are so cute! Love it on your nails and makes me want to try it now.
