My friend took a vacation to Arizona this fall. She came back with some of the most stunning photos (especially of Antelope Canyon). A quick Google Image search of Arizona reveals some stunning nature photography! I haven’t been there in years, but I’m thinking maybe a little vacation would be cool, especially to do some hiking! My Arizona nail art was inspired by all the cool striations in red rocks that you can see in Arizona – plus, a bonus sunset and saguaro cactus!
A few weeks ago, I saw Manic Talon’s review of the Bundle Monster 3D Modeling Gels, and I immediately bought 3 pots for myself. I’ve always wanted to do more 3D stuff, and I seriously hate acrylics (the smell, oh the smell!). I’ve been on the look out for good gel to try, and I was totally convinced of her review! It turns out that making 3D gel flowers is actually way harder than it looks. I watched a bajillion tutorials, and just had such a hard time! I think for my first official attempt, these aren’t too bad – but I think with a little practice I’ll be able to improve! 3D for the win 🙂
I grew up in a pet family – we always had pets, ranging from beautiful German Shepherds and Labradors, to Cleo the cat, hamsters, and fish. We never had any birds, though my dad was very fond of whistling at the bird that lived at the vet (he used to whistle to it like C3P0, if you can think of that whistle!). I liked having fish, especially the beautiful betta fish, with their bright colors and swirling fins. Those fish are like living works of art, seriously! I was inspired by a photo of a blue and orange betta fish – its body was a gentle blue gradient, with shimmering scales, but things got really wild on its flowing fins! I tried to make this fish nail art generally inspired by a beautiful betta, in texture and color, without being too cartoony or fishy!
I can’t believe it’s March already! And that it’s time for another week of Digital Dozen nail art! These past few weeks have just flown by for me, though I’m always more away of how fast time flies when I’m up against a Digital Dozen deadline! The theme for this week’s challenge is nature, which is a nice, open theme. There are a lot of possibilities here! Today’s look is a little bit random, I suppose – though not as random in my life, exactly. I recently went to a CSA Fair (A CSA is where you pay to own a share of a farm, and when the farm harvests, you get tasty veggies). One of my favorite CSA veggies… fiddlehead ferns! Have you ever eaten a fiddlehead fern? Mmmmmm just sauté in some olive oil and garlic and call it a day. Although you can’t cook these up – here’s some fiddlehead fern nail art for your enjoymont.
Welp, today I has a sad, friends. One of my favorite shows is ending! Yes, today is the series finale of Parks and Rec. I’ve decided to pay homage to this funny show with a tribute themed mani! For this Parks and Rec nail art, I’ve recreated some of my favorite funny moments from the show for a skittles look. Can you guess what each finger is? Don’t worry, I’ll tell you 🙂
There are some people who walk into your life and change you. In little ways and big ways, you can feel their impact. When I look back on my life, I have many people to be thankful for – so many people -, people who have made me pause and think. In college (ahem, university – I did, after all, go to school in Canada), I had two roommates. I love them both dearly, and Chinese New Year makes me think of them both, and miss them. One year, we celebrated Chinese New Year with a surprise party for Jenny, who remembered her family traditions and was, perhaps, a little homesick. So, Suzy and I picked up some delightful little treats, and decorated our apartment. We even managed to find some Chinese red envelopes! We had yummy sorbet, chickpeas from a can (I don’t know, we were really into chickpeas, don’t judge), and a coconut. Only, we couldn’t open the coconut! Jenny took a hammer and broke it to bits against the hard stone of our courtyard. We laughed and ate chunks of sweet coconut, and sat on the floor and told stories.
Besides glitter, you know what rocks my world? Holo nail polish. It’s everywhere, and for good reason. Man oh man, I cannot get enough of that rainbow flame – it makes even a simple manicure really beautiful! KBShimmer makes some fabulous holo polishes, and I am really drooling over Up and Cunning. I think KBShimmer is just generally great, and I am paying homage to the brand today with some KBShimmer inspired nail art! The brand’s logo has some pretty flowers, which are really easy to create in nail art.
A few weeks ago, I shared photos of my nail room set up. One of my storage baskets is full of samples that I received at Cosmoprof, way back in July. I am so appreciative of all of the lovely products that I’ve gotten to try because of that experience – but the task has been overwhelming at times. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I probably won’t be able to get to absolutely everything!
Happy Valentine’s Day, y’all! I had so much fun posting Valentine’s Day nail art this week, and I thought I’d end it with the look I’ll be wearing for Valentine’s Day tomorrow. You guessed it – it has hearts and pink! I did change things up a little bit by using a distressed look as a background. Thankfully it also counts for my Digital Dozen patterns on patterns (I mean, it’s got to, right? lol). I’m really loving these cute Valentine’s hearts!
Today I have another gorgeous nail polish set from Live Love Polish. This Valentine’s Gift Set from Colores de Carol is a beautiful set. I love that this set is purple based, which makes it perfect for Valentine’s Day, but I can see myself wearing these polishes all the time. This set has one polish that’s exclusive for Live Love Polish, so you won’t be able to buy it anywhere else! Plus, here’s something cool: these polishes are 5-free (woohoo! I wish all polish was so safe) and cruelty-free.
