Hi friends. Today’s post is going to be a little different. I’m sure you’ve come to expect great nail art and reviews (well, that’s the hope, anyways). For me, blogging is about a creative process, an outlet, and a space to share things that I truly care care about. I hope that I won’t ramble too much, but there’s so much going on in my life, that I’m just going to share some of myself with you and be personal.
First of all, some bad/scary news. On Monday night, my husband and I went to choir practice (I know, we’re precious!). When we came home, we discovered that our house had been robbed. I know this happens to lots of people, but I can’t tell you how hard and terrible it’s been. Lots of stuff was taken, but more than that, it’s terrifying to feel unsafe in your own house. Especially since we just bought this house – I was so afraid that perhaps we’d made an unwise decision. Additionally, the sale of the house is public record, which means that there are tons of scammers trying to sell me stuff and take advantage of me, and I’ve felt like I’m surrounded by bad people. I’ve had a really emotional reaction to this.
And yet. I received a package from my friend Jacqueline, owner of Liquid Palisade. I told her about the burglary, and she sent me a care package with fuzzy slippers and a Hello Kitty mug.
Honestly, I cried when I saw it. As much as there are terrible people out in the world, there are also friends. There are people who love me and want me to feel better. And man, do those slippers help me feel at least a little warm and cozy in my own house.
So here’s the other big news – only this is good news! I am now officially a licensed manicurist in the State of Colorado. I’m planning to share more about the exam process with you, but I’m just too excited to wait for a separate post. Because of everything going on, I really didn’t study very much at all – so I’m really relieved that I passed the exam! In Colorado, the testing agency issues cosmetology/barbering licenses on the spot, so I walked away with my official license yesterday.
And you know – I really love how the license proclaims, “Be it known!” I’m inspired and I’m taking it over.
Be it known, a$$hole burglars, that I won’t stand for this. I won’t let you make me feel vulnerable or alone. Be it known, world, that I am taking control of my safety.
Be it known that you can’t keep me down. I’m wearing lipstick and glitter (Shimmer Tammy) on my fingers – be it known that I won’t fall into a crying heap (though I did do that, before), but that I will brush my fabulous self off and apply more glitter.
Be it known that this picture is unwatermarked, and I could give two-hoots if anybody out there on the internet steals from me today. I’ll go back to watermarking my photos, but for today, I’m offering this picture up as a sacrifice.
Be it known that I am back in the saddle. I’ve got more stuff planned for you (an entire month-long blogiversary celebration, coming up!). Thanks for your support, readers and friends.
