Feather nails were all the rage a while ago – and I haven’t gotten around to trying them because there are so many things I want to try, and I never had feathers on hand! BUT a Michael’s just opened up right around the corner from where I live, which has definitely changed my life, not kidding. I grabbed a bag of feathers for $2.99 and decided to go for it! The thing is that when I actually opened the feathers I was a little squicked out – the label says “made in China” and for some dumb reason I wasn’t expecting them to be, like, real feathers. I don’t know why I thought that, kind of a dumb expectation. Feeling them really made me sad, and I don’t know how the birds were treated. Anyways, I have this bag of feathers which I will use up, but I probably won’t buy more. Feels too weird.
That being said, this manicure is awesome. I put down a nude base coat and stuck the feathers on using top coat. I trimmed the excess feathers off, and then put on another 50 layers of topcoat (felt like that, anyways).
I think this look is totally elegant and just really beautiful.
Here’s a close up so you can see the details.
Mostly, I tried to use feathers that matched. I wanted to try out something different on the thumb – I think it’s cool, but somehow it’t not as obvious as the other fingers.
What do you think? Would you use feathers? Or is it too weird?
