Have I gone too far down the hipster hole? Oh my gosh, I don’t know. I love kale! I know it’s trendy – but it is delicious. And it’s pretty. And it’s growing in my backyard! I think I already told you about how I pick it fresh from the garden for salads. Mmmmm – I can’t stress this enough: fresh food tastes ten bajillion times better than the stuff you can get at the grocery store. And the cool thing is that there are all these varieties of kale – so many colors and levels of curliness. I’m growing some that has kind of a purple stem, though it isn’t purple all the way through. I often it raw, but also like it sautéed with garlic. Anyways, I love kale – and I am kind of obsessed with this kale nail art. I never want to take it off!
Although it looks complicated, this nail art was actually pretty simple. I thinned out my polishes and then gently layered them on my nail using a fine nail art brush. I added in some more opaque colors to define the kale, too.
- Background: three thin coats of Loreal Goddess
- Kale Stem: thinned out Seche Empress
- Kale leaf: thinned out China Glaze Holly-Day, Essie Ruffles & Feathers, and Essie The More the Merrier
I used Out the Door top coat, and finished with OPI matte top coat. It’s funny how some designs just called to be mattified! I tried photographing this with a shiny top coat, and it just didn’t look right!
