I’ve really started falling in love with gel polish in the past year – for its wear, shine, and durability. At Cosmoprof last July, I noticed how many companies are offering gel products that don’t require as many steps, which is really exciting, since fewer steps means a faster mani from start to finish. Daisy offers a gel that doesn’t require a base coat (!). Plus, these polishes come in a Daisy Duo set, which matches regular nail polish to the gel shade. I think this is pretty handy, since you may not want gel polish on your toes, for example! I swatched 3 gels that I received from Esther’s Nail Center, plus my results from a wear test. Keep in mind that these shades have matching regular polish, so if gel isn’t your thing you can always pick up the lacquer versions.
4 Seasons is a mix of pink, black, and white micro matte glitters in a clear base. My husband called this “the gumball nail polish” and I think he’s spot on! This is the first of the Daisy gels that I tried, and it is by far my favorite. It layers to opacity in 2-3 coats, and it is such an interesting and pretty shade. I got a lot of compliments while wearing this beauty! I didn’t have the Daisy top coat, so I used the Couture top coat. I’m not sure if that impacted the wear time or not.
I was really curious about a gel polish that doesn’t require a base coat (ah, it so went against the core of my being!), so I did a wear test on my right hand with 4 Seasons. You can see at day 16, there was a little bit of lifting – just a tad, really! I was so impressed by the wear on the gel polish.
Removal took a little longer than I would expect, but I was trying to be very careful, considering that there was no base coat. I filed the top to break the seal, and then soaked in acetone and wrapped in tin foil. It took maybe 20 minutes, and then the gel just kind of sloughed off. Easy peasy.
The regular nail polish version of this shade was dead on. Easy to apply and long lasting.
This green is the analog to to 4 Seasons. It’s called Ode to Green – and the tiny green glitters are matte, but it also has some pretty silver sparkles. This is 3 coats, and it’s a little on the thick side, but it is a very pretty shade. Perfect for spring! The regular nail polish was a perfect match for this shade.
Havin’ Cobbler is the perfect summer bright. It’s neon peach – this color was seriously bright! As much as I loved the color, I found application to be kind of a mess. It was not very opaque (despite my vigorous mixing), and require 4 coats to reach this level of opacity. That’s a bit much for a gel! The color was striking, but I wasn’t pleased with application.
The regular nail polish version of this gel had similar issues. It had kind of a chalky consistency (many neons have this problem) and it took 4-5 coats to build to opacity.
Daisy Duo gel and polish sets come paired together and cost $12.95 for both – the price is a steal! The brand has a wide range of colors that you can purchase on Esther’s Nail Center online.
Overall, I had a really great experience with this brand! The fact that it doesn’t require a base coat is a plus, and it was extremely long lasting. Plus, there is a really nice range of colors. I am especially obsessed with 4 Seasons![PR Sample]
