Chinese New Year Nail Art

There are some people who walk into your life and change you. In little ways and big ways, you can feel their impact. When I look back on my life, I have many people to be thankful for – so many people -, people who have made me pause and think. In college (ahem, university – I did, after all, go to school in Canada), I had two roommates. I love them both dearly, and Chinese New Year makes me think of them both, and miss them. One year, we celebrated Chinese New Year with a surprise party for Jenny, who remembered her family traditions and was, perhaps, a little homesick. So, Suzy and I picked up some delightful little treats, and decorated our apartment. We even managed to find some Chinese red envelopes! We had yummy sorbet, chickpeas from a can (I don’t know, we were really into chickpeas, don’t judge), and a coconut. Only, we couldn’t open the coconut! Jenny took a hammer and broke it to bits against the hard stone of our courtyard. We laughed and ate chunks of sweet coconut, and sat on the floor and told stories.

This year, my friends are far away. I’m celebrating with Chinese New Year nail art, and remembering our fun times together!Chinese New Year nail art | The Dalai Lama's Nails

Sephora by OPI, Rimmel, Nina Ultra Pro

I’m trying out a new thing – do you like seeing the polishes I used? I started with two coats of Rimmel Stiletto Red – it’s a bright, cherry red! On my accent nails, I used Sephora by OPI I Found a Pot of Gold, only I picked out the diamond glitters. I used Nina Ultra Pro Gladiator to create some leafy florals, like on those Chinese New Year red money envelopes. Then I top coated with Glisten & Glow HK Girl.Chinese New Year nail art | The Dalai Lama's Nails

Happy Chinese New Year, friends. I hope the year is lucky for you!

  • What a lovely story about the holiday and a beautiful mani to go along with it! Showing the polishes you used doesn’t really make a difference for me but people who do nail art probably love to see the polishes used!

  • Totally fun! I must get more creative with my nails on these fun holiday celebrations.
