Pretty sure I said this during the water marble prompt – but, gosh, water marbles are hard! They’re so messy and fussy. When I saw that Fixin to Faff and Betty’s Beauty Bombs found a way to make a water marble decal, I knew I had to give it a try! I love the way water marbles look, but I just am so impatient. Plus, decals sound cool! So, was this decal method really easier than the original method? Read on to find out!
Here’s how this went down. I filled a cup with luke warm tap water, and then added drops of polish to form a bulls eye, like a normal water marble. I used China Glaze One Track Mind, Barielle Cosmic Kiss, and Sparitual Eye of the Beholder. I used a toothpick to draw in a design, and then… I left the room. I unpacked some boxes, made lunch, and took the dog out. Basically, I let the water marble design dry in the cup! When I came back, the polish was dry, and I used tweezers to pull the entire design out of the water. I put it on a plastic baggie and then cut out pieces. I applied the marble design on top of my nails, which had been freshly top coated. Then I tried to remove as much excess as possible before using acetone and a clean up brush to get rid of any extra bits. I top coated, and called it a day.
I’m real fancy at my new house, so I did this look on top of the Ikea instructions to build a Helmer…
All in all – this was easier than a regular, traditional water marble. I got a little frustrated with clean up – but I think that’s because I used dark colors and I ended up with acetone all over my hands. Decals are pretty cool – now I just have to practice drawing water marble designs!
