31DC2014 Day 13: Flicker Bird

It seems it has become an annual tradition – last year, I wanted to do some animal print nail art that was outside of the ordinary leopard print (don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a good leopard print. I just wanted to try something different) but I couldn’t think of anything. I put it to facebook, and my friend Charley came up with the idea of a blue ringed octopus. I couldn’t find that list, so I put out another plea! This year’s winner is Laura, who suggested a flicker bird! I looked up images of flicker birds and learned that they are common in Colorado! Plus, their feathers sometimes make a natural looking chevron, which I think is stylish and nice for fall. Today’s look is a very chic take on a Colorado flicker bird!

The execution for this look was actually very much like my rainbow ikat print – t was just a series of short strokes, layered in a chevron pattern. I don’t have a ton of brown polishes – not sure why! I used a base of OPI Did You Ear About Van Gogh, and then layered on Revlon Dominate. I started with a very thin layer, and then mixed some with Zoya Ziv for a little sparkle. I added back in Did You Ear About Van Gogh when it seemed to need some highlight. I finished with a coat of Seche Vite. The Dalai Lama's Nails | 31DC2014 Flicker Bird Nail ArtI like this kind of animal print – it’s almost not animal print, in that it’s rather subtle!

So, you can check out the 31 Day Challenge prompt (now that the Digital Dozen week is over!) if you want to know what’s next. Last year’s 31DC look was blue ringed octopus nail art.

  • Its great that you went for something different for this theme. It turned out really nice. I like the hazy kind of effect they turned out here.

  • Oh I love this pattern! I also love that you crowd-sourced your nailart idea here lol!

  • Cosmetic Sanctuary

Love this pattern. It looks fabulous! When animal print comes up, you usually see the same patterns over and over, so a change is refreshing!

  • Love your inspiration, your nails almost have a 3D affect, like Lisa said they have this hazy affect that make them look more real.
