It seems it has become an annual tradition – last year, I wanted to do some animal print nail art that was outside of the ordinary leopard print (don’t get me wrong, I LOVE a good leopard print. I just wanted to try something different) but I couldn’t think of anything. I put it to facebook, and my friend Charley came up with the idea of a blue ringed octopus. I couldn’t find that list, so I put out another plea! This year’s winner is Laura, who suggested a flicker bird! I looked up images of flicker birds and learned that they are common in Colorado! Plus, their feathers sometimes make a natural looking chevron, which I think is stylish and nice for fall. Today’s look is a very chic take on a Colorado flicker bird!
The execution for this look was actually very much like my rainbow ikat print – t was just a series of short strokes, layered in a chevron pattern. I don’t have a ton of brown polishes – not sure why! I used a base of OPI Did You Ear About Van Gogh, and then layered on Revlon Dominate. I started with a very thin layer, and then mixed some with Zoya Ziv for a little sparkle. I added back in Did You Ear About Van Gogh when it seemed to need some highlight. I finished with a coat of Seche Vite. I like this kind of animal print – it’s almost not animal print, in that it’s rather subtle!
